Permanent Exhibition
andel’s Contemporary Art 2010
The remarkable architecture of the andel’s Hotel Łódź is complemented by a permanent exhibition of contemporary art featuring Polish and international artists. The hotel’s unique interiors help to accentuate and focus the attention on the works themselves.
Join us on a tour through the gallery of the andel’s Hotel Łódź and get to know each of the individual artists:
Grzegorz Drozd
The works of Grzegorz Drozd address the observer through extended dialogues between the individual and the exhibition space. The 65 small paintings on display in the hotel constitute “The Threatening Letter”, which had previously been featured at the Centre for Contemporary Art Warsaw.
Gregor Eldarb
Gregor Eldarb’s contributions to the arts include sculptures, drawings and installations. His primary interest is on cities and architecture, which he depicts using the language of geometric abstraction. He begins with real points of departure and paints these over with successive motifs and themes.
Magdalena Hueckel
Magdalena Hueckel’s series “Compositions and Calm” as well as a number of portraits are exhibited throughout the hotel. Her quiet and reflective photographs represent a wonderful contrast to the strikingly severe architecture of the building.
Maciej Kurak
Maciej Kurak’s specialties are photography and the graphic arts. He is renowned above all for his unusual compositions. “The Fastest Train in the World” is a six-metre long photographic work exhibited on several floors of the hotel.
Dominik Lejman
Dominik Lejman combines painting with video projections. The surfaces of his single-tone abstracts serve as the screen for his videos. One of his best-known works, “The Skaters”, is integrated into the hotel atrium.
Joanna Małecka
The enormous murals of Joanna Małecka that decorate the hotel walls owe their intellectual conception to the fascination with large mining machines. The murals extend themselves like long spider-like objects without any consideration for the limits or contours of the walls themselves.
Tomasz Partyka
Popular culture forms the outline of Tomasz Partyka’s drawings. His expressive works reveal an influence of street art mixed with text in the form of short notes.
Ula Tarasiewicz
Some of the exhibited paintings are part of the set which she designed for the film “New City Legends”. Her distance to reality and her sense of humour, combined with a documentary talent, give her works a special touch.
Mariusz Waras
Mariusz Waras is a graphic designer and the creative force behind a series of urban murals called m-city. The work “m-city 234” featured in the andel’s Hotel Łódź depicts a unique link to the history of the location. It could be interpreted as an allegory of the city of Łódź – a city in which factories appear to have been built overnight.
The exhibition – open daily at the andel’s Hotel Łódź – is sure to be a unique experience for all fans of the arts!
